Reveal the Truth, Not Guessing It

After Leung Chun-ying was elected as the next Chief Executive, many reporters in Hong Kong become concerned about the freedom of press, as Leung is pro-Central government.

However, David Schlesinger, the chairman of Thomson Reuters China, said today that reporters should observe the coming development of media in Hong Kong, instead of blindly anticipating the future.

‘No matter how the coming development in Hong Kong is,’ said Schlesinger. ‘The reporters should still observe, question, and interview different people.’ In this way, reporters can investigate the real situation of Hong Kong.

He believes that reporters should always tell the truth, not to predict or imagine [why not predict or imagine?] the coming development of Article 23, as well as the possibility of having a universal suffrage in Hong Kong in 2017. [Should they not predict, or not comment on?]

‘Thomson Reuters China would not avoid reporting controversial Chinese politics,’ said Schlesinger. ‘Even the Central government blocks our news webpage.’[This has nothing to do with the rest of the article] He added that the freedom of speech in China has been improving these years [How?].

With the increasing popularity of social networking tool Wei Bo, he expects that reporters will be more able to express themselves online [He says reporters shouldn;t predict... and then he made a prediction?], which is hard for the Central government to control. --095137 2012年3月27日 (二) 21:18 (UTC)
