(Ricky Wong of HKTV is hot news these days so when he gave a speech in the GA meeting, reporters came and covered the event. Here are some excerpts of what the media has reported:

Apple Daily - - Fate of HKTV to be decided in 6 months.

Ming Pao - - Wong threatens to reveal a confidential report in "a creative yet legally bound way" to challenge the government within a few days.

Oriental Daily News and The Sun- - Ricky Wong claims there is huge discrepancy between what the government reveals and what the confidential report says. And Tam Yiu Chung of the DAB party has urged Wong, on three occasions in three days, to consider acquiring ATV as an alternative. Since Tam is considered a Beijing surrogate in HK, the suggestion therefore could be viewed as evidence that Beijing has not held any grudge against Wong, thus not the reason for Wong's failure to obtain a license.

Other reports touch on issues like: Ricky Wong criticizes the government for being unfair as it is free to release selected sections of the confidential report to publicly attack and ridicule him while he is gagged by law and rendered defenseless.

My dear classmates, since our assignments and theirs are basically the same, we could therefore compare the media stories with ours to see if we are up to par with others. If our reports miss or lack what the others have, we should ask ourselves why and see if we could do better the next time.

Your lead is not focused at all. What did Michael Tien say that Ricky Wong didn't think he lied? Who is Michael Tien? And why is he involved in the TV license affair? Who were the others that misled Tien? You have more questions than answers in your lead and that is not good. You have tried to cram too much stuff in your lead which is absurd. Didn't your teacher show you how to write a lead?

Let me show you how to write a lead based on the information in your report: "The chairman of HKTV Ricky Wong was convinced that the legislative member Michael Tien was misled by someone within the government into believing that HKTV has the weakest financial capacity among the 3 applicants and its application for an operating license was thus rejected.")

Mr. Ricky Wong Wai Kay, chairman of HKTV, gave a talk in Shue Yan University today. He thought that Michael Tien didn’t lie to the public about the reason why HKTV was not issued free-to-air television license, he was just misled by others in the meeting. He mentioned that the most important of life is the process but not the result. “We should enjoy the process.” He said. He was glad that his staff was still protecting them and didn’t give up him. He urged the students in Shue Yan university students not to work at TVB in the future.

Ricky knew that Michael didn’t read the consultant’s report, he believed some people misled him in the meeting only. He was unsatisfied with the government’s declaration about the license. “They didn’t tell out the ranking of 3 TV companies in the declaration.” Ricky said. He thought that the government just repeated all the words that they have said in this month. He insisted that he was not the worst one among the three. “I do not want to be the opposite side of the government, but the government does not know what Hong Kong people want.” That was the reason why he must involved.

Besides, Ricky was glad that until now, there were only one staff left HKTV even after laying off them. He was happy for the supporting of his staff. He enjoyed what he experienced in this month, and he thought that the most significant thing was not the result of the free-to-air TV license, but the process.

He urged the students not to work at TVB. The reason was that TVB was a well-established company with lots of rules, students may not have chance to explore. Also, he thought that students want people to respect them, of which students may not find respect in some aspects in TVB. Thus, he didn’t think students were suitable to work at there.
