Comment:

A businessman, who built his fortune on Internet marketing, believes Hong Kong should introduce “right to be forgotten” into local law.

Harry Lui, founder of a company specialises on Internet marketing, said the law would enhance privacy protection.

The right to be forgotten was introduced in the laws of the European Union in recent years, allowing individuals to demand Internet service providers to eliminate their records on the ground of privacy protection. However, the law was heavily criticised by campaigners advocating open governments for severely weakening the public’s right on access to information and the press’s ability to monitor power.

Also you should think whether the notion put forward by the speaker is a correct one. It is "about "right to be forgotten" can protect our privacy. How about the damages on the press monitoring power and the public's access to information? How about the negative impact of these rights in the face of "right to be forgotten"? Then, can "right to be forgotten" really able to protect our privacy? Is it the only way to protect our privacy? How about laws to monitor the sales of our data collected by these internet companies? How about law that can protect our privacy without compromising our right to information?
