Ringo Chan: Letv takes long time to get into Hong Kong market

Leshi Internet Information & Technology (“Letv”) had developed the online platform of watching films and tv drama programme since 2009. Letv launched the plan of entering Hong Kong market last month and revealed to change the traditional watching habits of 90% Hong Kong citizens in one year. Ringo Chan, Media Strategic Adviser, expressed that Letv will take long time to get into Hong Kong market as it needs to understand the market well.

The way of watching TV has changed since the invention of smart phone and application. We can watch programme on phone in everywhere. It is common to watch programme on train. Ringo Chan expressed his views on Letv getting into Hong Kong market in Shue Yan. He described Letv is creative to invent new products like Letv phone to cater for the market. Letv revealed that changing the 90% Hong Kong citizens’ habits of watching TV, sitting on the sofa to watch TV, into watching on online platform in one year. “Letv mainly developed in China; it takes long time to understand Hong Kong market.” He said. He said that Hong Kong citizens are used to sit on the sofa to watch TV which is not easy to change their habit easily.

Chan also said the Big Three of net nation in China is “BAT”, Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent. They have different strategies to develop markets, like Alibaba, the top of the online selling website, also invest on technology invention and online logistics.
