(You don't have to add the word "manhood" in universal suffrage. The term "universal suffrage" appears twice in the lead alone and I am sure you can substitute one with other expression. Your second paragraph, however, doesn't make sense at all. How can Cheng, who is championing for the universal suffrage, "claimed that the Basic Law guaranteed the future Chief Executive should be elected by an Election Committee, which is broadly representative" ? He is doing everything he can to get rid of the Election Committee and plus, he is also seeking to expand the representation of the Nominating Committee. I think you have been confused the nominating committee and the election committee. Your report is otherwise pretty good.)

115156 2013年10月22日 (二) 18:26 (UTC)In response to the announcement of the year-end consultation for the universal suffrage in 2017, Joseph Cheng Yu-shek, convenor of the Alliance for true Democracy, affirmed the legality of the universal manhood suffrage as not against the Basic Law.

Cheng, who is also a Chair Profession of Political Science at City University of Hong Kong, claimed that the Basic Law guaranteed the future Chief Executive should be elected by an Election Committee, which is broadly representative.

He said, “The anti-government mass protest on Sunday has showed that People is aware of their rights in picking a favorable TV channel, imagine what if people are not given the right to chose their own head of the government?”

He doubted the legitimacy of the pro-government camps and the Chinese officials to reject the calls of universal manhood suffrage of Hong Kong people.

“The pro-government parties infringe the high degree of Autonomy of the city as they relied too much on the order of the central government to handle the issue of 2017, without raising any practical proposal,” Cheng said.

Cheng also call for a cut on the scale of the Functional constituency in the Legislative Council, as he thinks the constituency is dominated by the pro-government member in making decision which greatly slower the pace of democracy development of Hong Kong.
