Scholarism will keep setting counters for fundraising in public areas because of its sustainable development, said the spokesperson of an activist group Scholarism.

Lai Man Lok Oscar, the spokesperson of Scholarism, said even though Scholarism had collected over 900 thousand dollars in July first protest and June forth memorial meeting, the continuous fundraising activities of Scholarism will keep it up because they are not aimed at gaining profit, but they indeed demand more money for saving in future use.

Scholarism is originally rented a subsidized apartment at low price in Wan Chai for its operation. Yet they were bound to move by the owner because of sufficient money power. So Lai explained that Scholarism have to reserve 500 thousand for two-year renting expenses for the new non-subsidized apartment in Lai Chi Kwok.

Together with the expenses of publishing its promotion magazine Dash, it is no doubt to collect more money. Indeed, Scholarism will plan to disclose its financial report in appropriate situation after the voluntary accountants verified its accounting records, Lai said.

On 1 October, the flag-raising ceremony in Golden Bauhinia Square, several members of Scholarism was carried away by police when they attempted to disrupt the ceremony. Lai explained “I agree that Scholarism has radical thinking, but I do not think our actions or behaviors are radical, we just want to express our need for a public nomination system in the 2017 election”. Lai stressed twice that Scholarism places much emphasis on rational protest.
