Senior media personnel: Politics is new to Hong Kong

A succession of scandals about Hong Kong Chief Executive candidate Henry Tang Ying-Yen makes the public disappointed, but it also makes Hong Kong politics much more mature. ((solid))

“The PR skills of Henry Tang and his PR firm are undoubtedly poor,” said Lai Man Cheuk, the senior media personnel and PR practitioner, as a talk to Hong Kong Shue Yan University students yesterday. “However, it is within expectation.”

Since Hong Kong was handed over in 1997, Hong Kong citizens, including the election candidates, only have five years of political experience.

“Politics is still so new to Hong Kong, so that most politicians are newbies,” said Lai. “Thus it’s common that they make mistakes.” He commented that the public should not just blame the scandals on Tang.

“People may think that the election this year was peaceful, but please don’t forget there were barbaric behaviors in the past,” Lai used Taiwan’s President Election as an example, “And these are the essential progress of democracy.”

Lai also said that in order to attain the political objective, being crafty is needed. He promoted the concept in Thick Black Philosophy, talking about how be shameless (thick face) and ruthless (black heart) to obtain and hold power. (((interesting final paragraph...like this idea and topic...pretty solid throughout...nice work))
