Being bullish about the advertising industry’s future, KK Tsang start his own business after leaving as CEO in a global agency GroupM in 2012, bringing new ideas of profit-sharing not only to the company, but to the whole industry.

As a former CEO of a global firm, Tsang said the problem of a big company is that it is not willing to share its giant profit with the employees.

“I bargained with the company to give up to three-month-bonus to the employees, but it was really a tough process.” Finally, the company agreed, but total bonus in fact only accounted for one-sixth of the profit that year.

Seeing hardly any groundbreaking changes in the company, Tsang left the job and founded The Bees Group two years ago. Inspired by Shih Wing Ching, founder of am730, he adopted Shih’s idea of profit-sharing system in his company – one-third of the profit is given to the employees – in order to enhance staff motivation.

Tsang had been in the industry for over 23 years, yet still, he is bullish about the future of advertising industry.

“As long as commodity market still exist, there will be the need of marketing and promotion (of the product). So advertising will not vanish as machine has no creativity, but man has,” he said.

And Tsang believed that local adperson is irreplaceable, so as their creativity, no matter in Hong Kong or any place in the world.

“If an advertisement moves Hong Kong people, it has to relate itself with Hong Kong’s culture and society circumstances,” he said.
