The Taiwan presidential election ended on 11th this month. Tsai Ing-wen won by 8.17 million votes at the election. Hui-ching, the Research Director of the Hong Kong Zhi Ming Institute said that there are loads of Hongkongers inspired by the Taiwan election. He explained that the democracy of Taiwan is achieved by local people to fulfill their civic responsibilities. However, Hong Kong only focuses on discussing the institution.

Hui pointed out that there are similar situations between Hong Kong and Taiwan. Taiwan people have paid so much effort to strive for the freedom of voting their beloved president. He also mentioned that grassroots citizens are a crucial part of democracy. The election in Taiwan is able to inspire how Hong Kong can achieve democracy.

“There is a negative impact between the relationship on China and Taiwan with Tsai Ing-wen won the presidential election,” Hui said. Taiwan should consider the situation on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan people should prepare to pay the price in the next few years since they have voted for Tsai Ing-wen.
