‘I support the use of slang words in the media industry’, said Mr Pang Chi Ming at a seminar yesterday.

Mr Pang Chi Ming, columnist of am 730 and Apple Daily has long been having studies on the development and growth of words and languages. At the seminar, he pointed out that the wide use of slang words in media industry is acceptable.

‘The use of slang words is understandable as it can transmit the messages in a direct and easy way. Words and languages change from time to time to meet the needs of people and so we should not suppress the growth of words and languages.’

Mr Pang further commented that the flow of foreign languages show the widespread of globalization. ‘For example, the Chinese word of ‘police’ actually came from Japanese but is used by Hong Kong people for many years. This is why we should respect the growth and development of words and languages’

During the talk, Mr Pang showed his absolute support of the original form of Chinese characters. ‘The creation of the Chinese characters has its own history and that the use of simplified form of Chinese characters will create damage to the traditional Chinese culture.’
