(I don't quite understand what you meant by "the sales of specialised magazines depend on the cover story instead of their substitutes". What were the substitutes? Other specialized magazines? We all know that there are other watch magazines in the market and since Hong Kong is a free market, how come the competition has not eaten into Timesquare's publication? There has got to be something more than just readers' loyalty.)

By SIU, Hnag Nam, 2012-02-05- Readers of specialised magazines can hardly obtain substitute content elsewhere, neither from the internet, said Jack Forest, the Editorial Director of Timesquare (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. He said the sales of specialised magazines depend on the cover story instead of their substitutes.

Forest said he was not worry about the prospect of specialised magazines. As the targeted readers are limited to a small group of people who are interested in a specific area, they largely rely on the specialised magazines to obtain the information and knowledge they need.

“Those who buy (specialised magazines), will always buy”, Said Forest. Although internet information is substituting weekly magazines, and free-newspaper is substituting paid-newspaper, specialised magazines are so specialised that readers can hardly obtain the same content elsewhere.

Instead of being affected by the possible substitutes, the sales of specialised magazines largely depend on the cover story, said Forest. He said every time when a specific brand of watch is on the cover, the sales of the issue increases.
