‘Journalists carry a big responsibility to affect public in proper pronunciation.’ Law Wing Kwan, station announcer of Television Broadcasts Limited, encourages Shue Yan University Journalism students when he attends a seminar about pronunciation.

Law says, it is very useful as the television program of TVB“proper pronunciation and use of words”can raise up the awareness of public in accurate pronunciation of words. He emphasizes the right pronunciation of Chinese words is not only for communication purpose, but also traditional culture. To change this phenomenon, Chinese culture can be kept and respected.

However, some words changes their pronunciation under the development of society, and these cause communication difficulties if someone insisted to use the old version. Law thinks, to choose the same pronunciation of the public be the right pronunciation.

He tells all the Journalism students need to get a right way to give off sound, if not, this “lazy pronunciation:”will bother their works. The reasons caused this phenomenon are due to the way and movement of speaking, the wrong position of tongue, mix up the sound of similar words. But Law pointes out that the lazy pronunciation could improve. He encourages students practice more by listening radio programs as well as Cantonese opera.
