Step-by-step development of HKCNA

June Fourth incident is always regarded as a prohibited topic in China. However, being a semi-official news agency, Hong Kong China News Agency has tried to include June Fourth Memorial news in their report. Candy Lo, Deputy Chief Editor of the Hong Kong China News Agency said that although it is only a 180 words article without naming the organizer’s name, it has been a great step towards news openness.

Candy gave a speech about working in a news agency at Hong Kong Shue Yan University today. She mentioned that although HKCNA has a china-funded background, it doesn’t mean HKCNA is a pro-government agency. HKCNA will hold a fair and objective principle when doing news report. Candy further supported her ideas with the June Fourth incident. She explained that she has been working hard to fight for a more democratic, more open and more transparent principle when doing news report.

However, Candy hoped the general public knows that reform needs time. It is impossible to do it with a sudden jump. Thus HKCNA will follow this direction step-by-step.
