Strict Copyright law is going to suffocate creativity

Re-creation are so popular among Hong Kong society, but have you ever thought that you will be sent to prison if you recreate some original artworks, for example, songs, posters, photos and so on? If you are just sharers on internet, you cannot also breathe freely because you may need to bear criminal liability. [Fanastic intro]

Since Hong Kong government has started the public consultation of Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2011, it aroused discussion. Some people worry that once this draft is passed, it will stifle the freedom of Internet users in the second creation. It was even a metaphor for the online version of Article 23.

"I feel disappointed as this is not good for the legislative system if the regulation is so strict," said Geordie Toh, a legal advisor of a network company, during his speech to the general assembly of Shue Yan University. He agrees that there is a need for the registered products’ possessors to protect their copyright but he also admires the re-creations because it is a precious chance for Hong Kong citizen to show their creativity. Therefor he would still support the re-creations if these do not involve any profit or ethical issues.
