TDM found the way to success

Confronting competitors from Hong Kong, local Macau television channels are usually the weaker side. The new CEO of TDM, considering their weaknesses in the production of drama and evaluation programs, has found "locals news" as their way to success.


Hong Kong television channels are always the first choice for Macau people. As the new CEO of Teledifusao de Macau S.A., Leoung planned to make a "revolution" on this situation. Knowing that the lack of labor and resources makes TDM not able to competite with HK channels in the field of drama and evaluation programs, Leong finally found "local news" as the criteria. "Everyone reads local news" said Leong. But what he noticed that is the lack of local news in local channels. With this idea, the originally "Life Channel" was transformed into "Information Channel", which is focused on news and information in Macau.


After this "revolution", Leong admitted that there is still a gap between the audience ratings of HK channels and TDM, in which the proportion is 6 to 4. However the gap has become narrower to only 14%, which is an encouraging fact for TDM. Leong indicated that, witnessing the success of this transformation, TMD has found their direction of developing which will be the basis of the channel’s further improvement.
