‘The election atmosphere of Taiwan is bustling with noise and excitement,’ says a student reporter.

Dr. Wong Chung Ming, an associate Professor of department of Journalism and Communication, who gave a talk at Hong Kong Shue Yan University weekly forum. He and several students who went to Taiwan shared their experience on reporting Taiwan Nine-in-one Elections 2018.

A student said, one of the main condition of reporters is to be well prepared before the election day, including collect information, find some interviewees and plan the schedule.

‘Taiwanese are actively involved in the election campaign,’ another student said. In Hong Kong, people will not completely participate in the election. On the other hand, the atmosphere of election in Taiwan is full of passion.

Moreover, the attitude of reporters and cameraman between Hong Kong and Taiwan are different. Taiwan reporters and cameraman are kind and helpful to offer help such as sharing their information, which is seldom happen in Hong Kong.

However, there is a leak in the election process. Wong said, the arrangement of election is not proper that counting the votes and voting at the same time. It will definitely affect the result.

Several newspapers have a clear standpoint of the election. ‘It is totally unfair to all candidates,’ Wong said. He believes the newspaper should maintain neutral.

Taiwan Nine-in-one Elections were held on 24 November 2018. Independent candidate Ko Wen-je received 580,820 votes in sum, narrowly overcame Ting Shou-chung by 3,254 votes. Therefore, Ko was re-elected Taipei City Mayor.--165009 2018年11月27日 (二) 17:03 (CST)
