Taiwan may receive huge pressure from China after election

In the past few days, there are great attention to the Taiwan presidential election from the globe. As the China government mentioned that they will put pressure on the economic development to Taiwan. Research Director of Hong Kong Zhi Ming Institute Ching Hui Ching expressed that Taiwan may not seriously affected under the pressure from China.


Hui said that the real economy development of Taiwan is more complete than Hong Kong. There are a local economic systems that not be easily affected by China since there are local banks and insurance agencies in Taiwan. Also, Hui mentioned that it is hard to block the development of Taiwan’s agriculture although they still need to rely on import.

However, the GDP of Taiwan may still be affected if there are no support from China, Hui said that there are less attractiveness on tourism or financial investment in Taiwan. Also, there are less cooperate relationship between nearby countries and Taiwan, which may also is a disadvantages of Taiwan.

The 2020 Taiwan Presidential Election was held on 11th January 2020, and the incumbent president Tsai Ing-wen and former premier Lai Ching-te from the Democratic Progressive Party won the election this time.
