Member cum Convenor of the Executive Council LEUNG Chun-ying yesterday said, in the coming five to ten years, Hong Kong’s economy would face a crisis if the public at the moment still pay no attention to the risk of Hong Kong may being “marginalize”.

Leung, claimed himself as the only person in the past two years to raise public’s awareness of the problem and stressed the risk appeared were in the cause of either cities in China or other countries in Asia rapidly fast growth than ever threatening Hong Kong top position in economy.

Leung took the total container throughput of our Asia's third- largest container terminal as an example. He said although there was a growth in number of the total container throughput the last year and we still maintained our top position at this stage, the growth rate was far behind that of mainland container terminal.

However, the advantage of Hong Kong being posited nearby mainland and having a efficient port to transfer goods to other countries is a undeniable benefit, Leung stressed. Thus, Leung suggested HK should ally with the mainland and form the strongest relationship to produce more “made in China, made by Hong Kong”goods in the long-distance race.
