Taxpayers Pays iBond’s Interest, Says Financial Commentator

Reporter/ Mandy Lam--095032 2012年2月7日 (二) 22:27 (UTC)

“iBond should be criticized in financial field,” said Chiu Sin Chun, the senior financial commentator of Now TV.

John Tsang, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong SAR, announced the 2012-2013 Budget (on) last Wednesday(date). He issued a new batch of iBond – HK $ 10 billion, in order to let Hong Kong residents against inflation (to let against?). The bond year is three years, every six months to distribute interest, which is inflation-linked in the past six months.

Chiu said that iBond should be punished (it cannot be punished-its inanimate) because Hong Kong government issued the bonds and only save the money without investment. The bond did not play its own role. “Worst of all, taxpayers have to bear the burden of paying the interest,” said Chiu.

“Who will benefit from such policy?” Chiu doubted that Hong Kong residents were not sensible to question this issue(rephrase, sentence meaning is not clear). Hence, he suggested students should not have preconceived ideas and should keep (open their mind-rephrase) to ask questions if they do not understand.

This article lacks sufficient information about the budget and the reasons why Chiu criticized it. The context (5ws) also needs to be included.
