Media today is experiencing a new transformation. With the overwhelming amount of information on the Internet, the population of internet users continues to rise up, surpassing the total circulation of newspaper globally. Department Head of Communication of The University of Macau, Professor Lam Yuk-Fung describes online press is the “killer of tradition press”.


As the deputy chief editor of the popular micro-blogging services, Tencent, Li Fang commented on the internet media enjoys favorable advantages than traditional press in terms of transmission speed and citizen journalism. (unclear sentence-please clarify)


Internet is worldwide and speedy which spreads out breaking news rapidly (-can be combined & common knowledge). Li illustrated the examples of Laden and Michael Jackson to show how speedy the Internet media can react . The online media announced the death of Michael Jackson 30 minutes earlier than CNN, while announcement of the Laden's death , America's top enemy, was few hours faster than traditional press.


Nowadays, audiences have changed from consuming news to reporting the news. “Everyone can be a reporter, they write blogs, post comments on forum, and share news within the social network,” said Li. Bloggers can express their personal feelings or comments on society and news event on the Internet.


“The Press is undergoing a revolutionary transformation,” said Li. Many people have more than one mobile devices which (favor to-inap) the development of online journalism. He admitted that online journalism is the future trend. “With the rapid development of the online press, the traditional press is facing a great challenge.”


However, he emphasized that the new media cannot replace the traditional press. “Radio cannot replace newspaper; television cannot replace radio; so new media cannot replace traditional one. (missing articles, and context)” He believes that traditional press can still survive because different media forms can fulfill the needs of different audiences.
