Mr. Lam Chiu Ying said Hong Kong Observatory would not be controlled by any people or organizations. Observatory would not lie to citizens. And they would make decision by themselves.
Some people criticized that Hong Kong Observatory sometimes issues the typhoon and rainstorm warning signals inaccurately. Public suspect that the Observatory obeys orders from any organizations.
Lam Chiu Ying, the Director of Hong Kong Observatory said, Observatory’s work bases on science, serves pubic and considers human life as the most important thing. They always make decision by themselves. They would not be controlled by anyone.
Lam added the typhoon and rainstorm warning signals are some forecasts which warn public to pay attention. Observatory has to consider human life firstly. So they adopt a lenient policy of typhoon and rainstorm warning signals. That tells why Observatory issues the typhoon and rainstorm warning signals inaccurately.
Lam said before issuing the typhoon and rainstorm warning signals, they have to consider the effects follow. And they should make decision according to the situation of Hong Kong and peoples’ reactions.
In decades of years, the climate is changing and getting warm. Some environment protection organizations claimed that people should do something to protect the environment. Lam said that he does not like the term of ‘Environment protection’ as it separate human and the environment. Lam said, human belongs to the environment.
Lam also thinks that people should not expect the government to do something on environment protection. People have better to change the live style which is consumption leaden. And people should do well by themselves and transmit the message to others. People should not over rely on the government.
Working as a director of the observatory is stressful. Lam likes bird watching as bird watching could make him happy. He said, people also could learn observation through bird watching.
