The Sino-US trade war was only an appetizer for the competition of technology development between China and the United States, said by an international relations expert.

“5G technology and artificial intelligence are the main dishes of the war because they are keys for maintaining its edge,” said Yau Ching Yuen, a pundit on political issues and the founder of Post 852.

Yau said the wresting between China and the US was not just about trade, but also technology development.

“Predominate 5G and AI could predominate the world and the universe,” Yau said at an assembly at Shue Yan University.

The 5G technology of China was ready to test while many leading countries, including the US and other European countries, had not yet well-developed, which could make China surpass other nations to become a super power, so the US would not let China go, said Yau.

Yau said, Huawei’s latest 5G telecommunications network equipment have threatened the leadership of the US, so the US pressed its allies to ban the use of Huawei’s 5G equipment and asked for the extradition of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.

“The US has to use a tough attitude to face with the new global situation so as to gain an overwhelming advantage to maintain dominance,” said Yau.

Since all the information were undertaken by the real-name system, companies could collect a lot of data for analysis, which made China racing ahead in 5G equipment, said Yau.

However, Yau said that the US had strong capital so there would be the different strategy he could confront China and maintain its edge.

“Like the US-Japan trade war happened in the 1980s, which made a recession in Japan economy,” said Yau.

“The US still surpassed China in the not only military but also in politics and the economy,” Yau also added.
