The Skill of Reporting : Confidence, Preparation and Curiosit

As a gate keeper, journalists play a vital role of news decision making. According to a former journalist, the essential elements of being a prominent journalist are confidence, preparation and curiosity.

Jiang Su-wai, the chairlady of the C S Culture Foundation, as a guest speaker of Shue Yan University suggested students to do more preparation before interview and said, “Pre-preparation is useful bacause it can help the reporter stand out via building up the relationship with guest, making a great impression and gaining identification.”

Jiang understanded getting well-prepared to know more about the target’s backgrounds and weaknesses need sacrificing for one’s time. But, she said it’s worth.“Catching the significant moment to ask proper question can be helped for reporting.”

“Reporters should show confidence and have curiosity of anything to seek question and good observation skill to find out the news.” Jiang noted. In the interview, reporter need to behave friendly to gain trust and make closer relationship with the interviewee if reporter is making exclusive news.

“Most importantly, reporter is a must to stick to their promise and protect the source,” Jiang added that it could let the interviewee keep on giving some exclusive information.

Jiang was well-known for the first Taiwanese reporter went to China of reporting at 1984. She also was the former TV programmer and has been affirmed as an experienced journalist by lots of international media.
