Liu Wei Zhong, the Chief Editor of Bauhinia Magazine, today said at the Shue Yan University that as a news and political magazine, which were publish monthly, failed to compete with the broadcasting media in terms of timeliness; so, the magazine had to develop its own strengthens to “earn” buyers.

Liu said, sufficient time provided was one of the strength at the same time, allowing the magazine to fully and deeply analyze the current affairs, which were hot and people were interested.

On the other hand, Liu said that the magazine had to find something new. One of the approaches is finding a new angle for a current affair. For example, the development of the high-speed rail in China does not only benefit the mass transportation, but also benefit the military transportation in an emergency. Another approach is covering an affair before it comes true. An excellent example for this approach is that Bauhinia Magazine successfully covered some of the content, which was kept secret by the official, of the 2008 Beijing Olympic opening ceremony before it was going to be held very soon. The approach left is finding something new and remains unexposed.

Analyzing and foreseeing something seems easy; we are doing them every day. But, can our imagination match with the reality? It is properly not always. In order to ensure that what the magazine covered are true or are going to happen, Liu said that Bauhinia Magazine had sources from different expertise or areas, instead of “guessing subjectively”. “We do our reports based on fact,” Liu said.

Before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, many people predicted how many gold medals China would get. People commonly predicted that China, at least, could be the third on the list; and she had a chance to be the runner-up. But the people in Bauhinia Magazine did not think so. The magazine invited an expert from USA to do an analysis; China could be the champion. The magazine predicted that China would gain 46 gold medals, just five medals fewer finally.
