The Tsang’s final budget is useless

Compared with last year, some observers were dissatisfied with the financial secretary's final budget, because of failing to address and solve those root problems in Hong Kong, a university talk heard yesterday.

After the Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah released his last budget proposal, the Hong Kong residents voiced out that the budget did not meet their expectation. Chiu Sin-chun, the Now TV senior financial commenter, said he thought the budget did not contain any significant financial measures to solve the root problems in society. [What are the root problem in society?] The latest budget was too conservative, which focused on managing money, rather than making contribution to the residents.

Chiu also criticized that the new budget focused on controlling the property market with increasing land supply mainly. Nevertheless, the aspects of education, medical or housing just covered with a small proportion. "Education is one of important investments (for the youngsters Hong Kong), which can pay off in the future."

He pointed out that this budget could not be regarded as the most balanced one in Tsang's term of duty and it showed the HKSAR government lacked of vision. [What was a more balanced one? What is this one lacking?]

In his opinion, the government should invest the surplus on the long-term development, education, and technology, instead of giving cash directly to Hong Kong residents. Chiu did not agree giving money was the best way to help Hong Kong’s long-term growth and the needy. [What would be a better strategy?] “Hongkongers should have wide vision, which not only concern on the Scheme $6,000.” Chiu concluded.
