The develop of Mainland’s TV industry is inferior to Hong Kong

Deputy Controller of Shenzhen Media Group Li Xie believed that the character of Mainland’s TV media is changing and become commercialize. But the mainland‘s TV media develop has not catch up the Hong Kong‘s.

Li admitted before mainland reform and open, the TV media just a government spokesperson. “Before 1979, the TV media was used to infuse the political party's consciousness. After the mainland reformed, the TV media started concerning what the populace need” he said. Nowadays, it becomes commercialize, the media need to increase advertising revenue, it pushes TV pay more attention to program’s quality and audience rating.

Compare with the Hong Kong’s TV program, the mainland’s has not yet catch up, there are several factors. “Towards to TV culture, the Hong Kong TV producers have better profound understanding and mature ideas. Also, the TV‘s influence to social culture is very profound and wall to wall. The mainland’s TV lacks these.” He said.

The freedom of the press in China is attended. Li believe that there is no absolute press freedom, even in Hong Kong. “Commercial factor is considered on Hong Kong press, it may constraints press freedom. As China is a traditional country, the development of press freedom may be slower. I think it is progressing and the direction is correct. ” He said. Also, he pointed out there is different culture in different places so the development of press in China will not same as American.
