The freedom of speech in China is getting better thanks to the popularity of social network and the increased quality of Chinese reporters. [Fantastic opening line.]

The freedom of speech in China is one of the big barriers towards the media in China, yet the release of search matters about 6.4 Tiananmen Square incident recently brings a hope to the environment of media in China. David Schlesinger, the Chairmen of Thomson Reuters China said in Hong Kong Shue Yan University today that the barrier is diminishing.

David said the media in China still have a lot of constraints in reporting, but as the great popularity and speed of social network in China, many topics that cannot be publish in the pass can spread through these media, and breaks the situation that no news other that the official media can be spread in the pass. “We also use Weibo (social network in China) to gather information in China.” David said.

He continued that lots of reporter in China studied overseas and increased the quality of the reporters in China, and there are quite a number of good reporting appears time to time. He thinks that the Chinese reporter also helped in broadening the freedom of speech in China [How?].

Yet he thinks that the freedom of speech in China is still not enough for media reporting, and still has lots of room to improve. [What more is needed? How can it grow?]
