Underprivileged groups like new immigrants, the elderly, and the disable and so on, they are always being discriminated.Alfred Chan, Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission, attended an assembly at SYU on Tuesday talking about underprivileged groups, sexual minorities was one of his concerns.

Some countries have implemented homosexual marriage. Chan said, Hong Kong could take the foreign countries’ homosexual marriage laws as reference, which could advance the legalization of homosexual marriage in Hong Kong. Since, the marriage law involved many social issues, like religion, adoption and so on. Chan said, the government should consult with public in order to make a consensus on homosexual marriage issue.

Chan said, he took an open attitude towards homosexuality. He thought everyone had their rights to choose their living style, we should respect. Chan said, the government should set law to protect homosexual. The homosexual should not be discriminated.

Chan said, the most important thing was the society needed to change the traditional thought and the stereotype, but not the people who were labeled. We needed to protect the underprivileged group; everyone should have their own equal rights.
