The Power Assets Holdings Limited has kept raising the electricity bill in the past few years, which drew public attention and criticism eventually. Esme Lau, public affairs manager (Media & Community) of Power Assets Holdings Limited, explained the difficulties and considerations behind these actions.

The Power Assets Holding Limited has recently been criticized for charging high electricity prices for people living on Hong Kong Island. Lau replied that the public should consider several factors before making the judgement. “Our scale is only one-third of the CLP (China Light and Power Limited),” she continued, ”our facilities in power generation and transmission are different from the CLP, and we are now suffering higher operations costs.”

Considering the higher power efficiency, someone suggested that Power Assets Holdings Limited should adopt nuclear power. Lau said that they are unwilling to approve this suggestion due to the worry of nuclear safety. “The explosion of Fukushima nuclear plant has raised the public concern, including ours,” she continued, “although that (nuclear power) is safe mechanically, the psychological shadow still exists in our minds.” Instead, the Power Assets Holding Limited has started reducing the emission in a bid to save money.

Lau also made comments about the crisis management of the nuclear accident in Fukushima, "there were some delays actually, but the response was still acceptable. I think they were facing the dilemma between tackling the fire and communicating with the outside; they should focus on one of the tasks.”

[Good article. Well written. I like your title, and how you worked it into the story. Great job!]
