There are many limitations for think tanks to develop in Hong Kong, the Executive Director of the One Country Two Systems Research Center Cheung Che Kong said when he shared his opinion on “One Country Two System Research Institute: Its roles and functions in Hong Kong” at the Hong Kong Shue Yan College on Tuesday.

Cheung Che Kong believed that although there was space for think tanks to develop, there were many limitations in Hong Kong. All topics for discussion in Hong Kong are related to politics, so it leads to very few social construction and knowledge-based research in Hong Kong, Cheung Che Kong stated.

Cheung Che Kong believed that think tanks were closely-related to political parties. Think tanks and political parties can have positive interactivities, but think tanks are independent and not the subordinate of political parties, he strengthened.

He stated that the One Country Two Systems Research Center is a think tank. We can define a group is a think tank if it is related to civilian, knowledge and public policy, and it is not impacted by any political factors, Cheung Che Kong explained.
