Thomas Shao says it’s time to change the society

Stephy Poon

With the new Chinese edition of Businessweek, Mr. Thomas Shao, the chairman of Modern Media Group, said their main goals are not making a lot of money but to try their best to change the society in their “Bloomberg Way”.

Although Hong Kong is an international financial center, market for these business magazines is not as big as the entertainment magazines.

“When you look at the media in Hong Kong and compare them to those in China and the US, then you will know how big the gap is. Hong Kong is way too falling behind. In China, no cell phones are allowed during meeting and people are always punctual. No “hea” attitude like in Hong Kong.” Thomas said.

Thomas thinks that Hong Kong is losing her charm in many ways, not only finance but also social and cultural.

“Hong Kong is too money-oriented. It seems money is all their core value. Bloomberg Businessweek is here to tell the people that it’s time to change. We should work with our beliefs and goals, not just money. So what are the core values of Hong Kong?” Is it only about money? ” Thomas said.

Thomas said as he thinks media is not an individual, so media must consider what positive effects they could bring to the society.

“We do have confident in expanding and leading the business magazine market in Hong Kong since we value quality. What we want is to change the society in a positive way.” Thomas said. --105125 2013年3月6日 (三) 00:23 (UTC)
