With the advancement of technology, people said that
newspaper is not a prosperous industry. However, Tim
Chan, the Executive Chief Editor of Hong Kong Economic
Journal said in a talk at Shue Yan University that
newspaper won’t die, it will just morph.
“Nowadays, people like holding their electronic devices
in MTR rather than holding a piece of newspaper. I seldom
find a person that is reading newspaper in MTR. In 1995,
people were more likely to hold a piece of newspaper in
MTR.” He said.
He said that modern technology devices such as mobile phones
and notebook can gradually replace the existence of newspaper
in the next 10 years, but newspapers are still existed in Hong
Kong. He has a positive attitude towards the newspaper industry.
“The case of newspaper is similar to that of the music. Both
of them are a sunset industry. But music is not dead with the
diminishing of phonograph disk. So newspaper will never die
once there is news in this world.” He said.
He said that people in this modern society needs a lot of news
and information. It is much more than that of the past decades
.“People like reading news in this era, they read news like
every single minutes. The need of news is the highest comparing
to the past decades. Once there is a market of news, there is a
market of news media like newspaper.” He said.
