Time would improve the freedom of press in mainland

An experienced journalist said the freedom of press in China is limited but the situation is improving with the development of Chinese government.

Mr. Li Xie, Deputy Controller of Shenzhen Media Group, said that it is difficult for China to compare with other developed countries like United States as the different stage of liberty. “Since China is still a traditional country, it needs more time to develop a mature stage of freedom. But the environment in China is improving now comparing with years ago.” Li admitted that there is still a huge difference of between mainland and Hong Kong. “In Hong Kong, the role of media is expressing public’s opinions, but in mainland, media is just a mouthpiece of the government.”said Li.

Li said it is a great concern of journalists in mainland to decide what news should be reported as they may face serious consequence after the release of news. “ This situation is never happen in Hong Kong but it will happen in mainland.” Li stated that the release of some news may cause huge effect and damage.
