Barrie Ho, one of the top architects in town, express his worries about the future of his counterparts in Hong Kong, criticizing their lack of creativity in the general assembly of the Journalism Department, Shue Yan University, in this afternoon.

Ho is often described "young at age, high in seniority" in the industry, who had won about 40 awards around the globe, including Hong Kong Outstanding Young Person Award in 2005. Several Youth S.P.O.Ts of HKFYG and City Art Square in Shatin are some of Ho's work in town.

Ho found himself sorrow about there's no famous building in Beijing is designed by a Hong Kong architect, replying the question about his feeling on the skyscrapers in the Chinese capital. He remember that the last three decades was the golden age of the Hong Kong architects, when they earned a lot of money by focusing on high density residential, but without a try on creativity.

When projects began to be launched in developing cities in Mainland China, new and strange ideas are what the property developers want at the moment. Because the stability of the structure is always the first in Hong Kong's architectural designs, which is obviously not match with the demand of the Mainland projects.

On the other hand, plenty of land resources allows buildings occupied a huge space in Mainland, which not the usual way that the Hong Kong architects design buildings. So lack of creativity caused no landmarks from the hands of Hong Kong architects. Eventually in the fame of hall for architects, there are no names from Hong Kong.

He also warn that if his fellow keep their ways of life, eventually the only job they can got is project managers from the developers, but actually the "project messenger" for their boss.
