Towngas understand community thus foresee potential crisis

“Any irrelevant news but of public concerns can become a potential crisis to a corporate,” an experienced head of a public enterprise said. To be aware of the potential crisis is fundamental to solve emergency, so that preparation work can be done before people ask.
Incident of Exxon Mobil Corporation and Water Supply Department inaccurate charge due to wrong gas supply count has created big noise, people are worried they have paid more than they have to. Queries from media came afterward immediately although no much incident happened on them. However, before that, they have done a series of investigations to test the accuracy of their measurement tools, therefore, they can assure the public that every count from Towngas is correct.
“Beyond making a profit, corporate social responsibility is emphasized but can only be done when a company has a profit,” said MS. Wong Sau Ying, Head of Corporate Communications, Hong Kong and China Gas Company Ltd (Towngas).
In the scope of economics, striking a balance between environment and profit is always not an easy task. Nevertheless, Towngas has chosen their right way, a clear direction on their role as one of the responsible parties help preserving the energy.
They invested 2 billion on a project to collect firedamp from a landfill in N.T., then transport through pipes to provide energy for residential nearby. They do not hope to have revenue on this costly project, only to fully utilize any fuel wasted.
She believed, to be a successful corporate, public concern should not be ignored.
Price fluctuation is the main concerns of the public as towngas is the only supplier in Hong Kong. Maintaining close relations with the community is one of their strategies, they set up a group to contact District Council regularly. Through an agent, they can reach the extensive citizens to know more what the community concerns.
