Triple play brings a benign contest

“Triple play” can be regarded as the combination of the Internet, broadcasting network and telecommunication. [Good definition!] Under this environment, difficult jobs can be done easier than before, "Producing a movie or television series has become easier and the competitions among the industry has become more intense, but it doesn't matter, competition makes progress." said Ho Yuet Fung, a global media specialist and the former Managing Director of CBS Broadcast International Asia Inc. when attending a seminar held by the Hong Kong Shue Yan University this afternoon.

Concisely speaking, “Triple play” focuses on a combined business model, which is the provisioning of two bandwidth-intensive services (high-speed Internet access and television) and a less bandwidth-demanding service (telephone) over a single broadband connection. Although it is not aim at solving technical issues, it does make the production and dissemination of individual work, for example short movies, more handleable, "The main concept is the interaction, which brings a greater convenience for our information lives," said Ho. In the near future, a video captured by yourself can be uploaded on the Internet, sent to your friends’ mobile phones and transmitted to the cable television station at the same time. [Good summary and explenation.]

Ho said that with the convenience brought by the improvement of the technologies, the capitalized cost of doing most of the things is lower than before, “Young people, you should make use of this advantage to express yourselves, you can produce or comment and even set off an upsurge,” said Ho. For example, in the past, if you want to send a letter to the editor to make some comments on the latest TV series, it does not cost a lot, but if you want to make comment every week or even every day, that could be a problem. However, you can send to the editors’ email box directly and express your feelings freely and unlimitedly without paying. [Phenomenal example; nicely exprssed!]

Under the rapid development of the networks, another free TV station is going to start broadcasting their programs in seconds. With the emergence of this new competitor, the existing media organizations will have to face a keen competition, “More players is always better, competitions make progress,” Ho added. She believes that this can push the existing media organizations to do better and work harder. [Nice way to finish off. Hint at other parts of the talk concisely.]
