(It is not Maggie Chum who is promoting the 3RP program, it is the UNHCR. What happens to Syria that it has such a horrifying magnitude of humanity disaster? Why is there a civil war?)

By Au Ka Chun

The number of Syria refugees registered with UNHCR have reached 3.2 millions
this year. Maggie Chum, Communication Officer for the UNHCR in Hong Kong,
promoted the 2015 Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP) today during a
Journalism assembly at Shue Yan University.

The concept of the 3RP is divided into three dimensions, which are humanitarian
help, psychological recovery of refugees and developments and coordination of
the humanitarian agencies. Maggie cited a scene from ‘ The Suffering Grasses’
that a solider of a government army fired at an unmovable Syrian, showing how
huge the mental damage can be done to other people.

Syrians get killed randomly and have not got any freedom. Maggie said, refugees
flee to Turkey, Lebanon or even Europe. The Syria government set landmine,
enforce frontier defense to prevent refugees escaped from Syria. Some Syrian
pay for human trafficking therefore they can escape to Greece by sea, but at the
end they may land at Cyprus, Maggie said, ‘who knows where would the traffickers
go?’

Maggie said students or youngsters can have huge impact to Syria if they can
share news in social media or raise people’s attention to the tension situation
in Syria.
