UNHCR proposes to launch 3RP with cities in Middle East to help refugees

Maggie Chan, Communication officer of UNHCR Sub-Office Hong Kong, said they are going to cooperate with different non-government organizations in the world to launch The Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP).

Syria's civil wars continuously break out for more than 40 years. More than million refugees are suffering from these civil wars. Chan stated that, UNHCR will put more effort to launch The Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan with the cities in Middle East which is mainly focus on humanitarian, resilience and development. She said, they will play the role as an organizer to cooperate the efforts of different parties and enhance the effectiveness of plan.

Refugees in Syria can be divided in three categories. Chan explained, the wealthiest Syrian will leave their hometown and move to Europe like Greece. But the majority Syrian does not have enough capital to take flight to leave their home. They will move to the cities nearby including Turkey, Jordan. She stated that, most of the Syrian would like to go Liberian to meet with their relatives or friends. Yet, the last group of Syrian that does not have adequate capital to leave will sell all their properties to smugglers. Chan said, sometimes smugglers will just leave them at cites nearby after receiving all their money.

UNHCR Sub-Office Hong Kong is one of the offices in UNHCR’s global network providing vital assistance to refugees and other persons of concern in more than 120 countries around the world. It is responsible for the promotion and protection of refugee rights in Hong Kong.
