The Chief Executive Officer of Yan Oi Tong, Lu Tak Ming, thought the universal retirement protection scheme should be studied in depth since the tax revenue might not support the expenses in Hong Kong.

“The expenses of the universal retirement protection scheme for elderly are too large,” said Lu.

Lu said he didn’t absolutely reject the scheme; however, it should be deeply study and reach a consensus in the community.

He suggested that in Europe, many countries such as Spain implemented the scheme but the citizen’s needs keep rising. The government cannot fully satisfy the money demand of the citizen.

He said “The big country has faced the problem let alone Hong Kong,”

He thought the tax income of Hong Kong government is small and even is zero tax base. He questioned whether the government can support the future expenses of universal retirement protection scheme.

He also said the elderly needs not only are the money, but also other medical and community services.

“Universal Retirement Protection Scheme may not e the best for elderly,” he said.
