A Secretary argued that it is not a good idea to decide whether the year of universal suffrage of Chief Executive or Legislative Council should come first. He thought the ideal plan is the timetable of universal suffrage should come first and follow by the route.
Stephen Lam Sui-lung, JP, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, said the order of timetable and route for the universal suffrage have a difference. “We decide whether the universal suffrage of Chief Executive or Legislative Council should come first and follow by a timetable, but it did not work” said Lam. Lam believed it is more realistic to decide the timetable first and follow by the route.
Lam emphasized that 2012 is the key year for democratic development. “There are two problems need to solve in 2012 for the 2017 universal suffrage. These are the formation of the election committee and the formation of Legislative Council” Lam said. Lam also pointed that the universal suffrage is new to Hong Kong public. In order to increase the sense of the public about universal suffrage, Lam clamed through the participation, the public will be more aware the politics. “It is an essential way to improve the political nomination system and provide more opportunities for the public to participate in politics,” Lam said.
Lam promised that government will overcome the difficulties to held democratic Chief Executive Election in 2017 and democratic Legislative Council elections in 2020.
