“HKCNA is trying to report more sensitive issues,” said Candy Lo, a deputy chief editor of Hong Kong China News Agency (HKCNA), when attending Hong Kong Shue Yan University speech yesterday.

HKCNA is labeled as a Beijing mouthpiece and never report sensitive issues and never criticize Beijing government. Lo said HKCNA never hide its China-funded background. She believes every medium have their stance, HKCNA is not an exception. But still, it keeps trying to do objective report.

Lo said HKCNA tries to report sensitive issues such as Tiananmen Square protests. “It used to be a taboo, but since 2007, we cover June the story of June 4 candlelight vigil every year,” she said. “We also reported Liu Xiao Bo, the human rights activist, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010.”

Hong Kong China News Agency (HKCNA) was established in the 1950s, which is the oldest local news agency in Hong Kong. It mainly report in Mainland China News. Candy Lo graduated from Hong Kong Shue Yan College and she works for HKCNA for more than 14 years.

Lo believes China will give more freedom to press, but it will take some times.
