Along with launching three more public TV stations later, script writers, who are being sweated may gain better conditions.

Ho Tuet-fung, a former script writer of TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited), gave a speech at Shue Yan University today.

When Ho was a freshman, a senior executive said to her.” You enjoy what you are doing; you don’t need to earn much.” She does not buy it. [Why not?]

The script writers in American went on strike before. [What do the actions in America have to do with the HK situation?] Ho agrees that the field should bond together to fight for their reasonable rewards. [What are reasonable rewards?]

There are only two local public TV stations, the demand of script writer is limited and they are usually sweated. ["Usually sweated" is not an English idiom]

The government intends to release three more public TV licenses. Ho welcomes the competition, “one more player is always better. Competitions lead enhancement.”[Three new players are entering the field, not one.]

Ho does not worry about the stations’ survival [Which station?]. Local market may not be able to digest the overwhelming programs but China’s market does.

She thinks that most of the programs failed during the recent years; mainly because the management levels do not allocate enough resources and time to the productions.

“In the past, when I had to write a complete series, I had one to two months for my preparation, drafting13 episodes. After on production, I handed in a 1.5-hour-script a week…” Ho said, however, the conditions are much harsher nowadays. [How are they harsher?]

“Good scripts are still in need.” Ho believes youngsters can bring the field fresh air [how?]; and the audiences have much say now [Like what?]. Their preferences are loud and clear. [What are their preferences?]
