WWF plays a part in conservating Chinese White Dolphin

Chinese White Dolphin, which is one of the endangered species in Hong Kong, has long been a disputable issue in the society. Andy Cornish, the director of World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF), urged the government to reduce commercial fishing in Shue Yan's University today.

The number of big fish has reduced in recent years.There is a surging number of small species in sea."The situation emerges since there are no control of fishing ar all,"Andy said. "The government should consider to cease commercial fishing." He believed more fishes would reappear after four to five years with the implement of prohibition of commercial fishing.

"Recently, the project of ZHM bridge and dangerous experiments done by the government may also pose a threat to the Chinese White dolphins," Andy stated.

WWF plans to hold a workshop with experts from mainland and Hong Kong to conduct several researches.Besides, WWF is considering to negoitate with the license fisherment in the marine park, hoping they can leave the area by paying $500 milion compensation."We hope the above means can help the conservation of the Chinese White dolphins," Andy added.
