In Hong Kong, many people believe that born in a wealthy family equals to having a good starting point in life. However, a marathon runner does not agree with this value.

Walter Cheung, the Head of Communications and Corporate Sustainability of Hang Seng Bank, shared his life experience to students at Shue Yan University today and encouraged students to plan their life and be hard working no matter at which stage of life.

Hardworking makes Cheung overcome challenges

“It is hard for me to study well since my parents are illiterate and they do not know how to read,” Cheung said. As Cheung was born in a grassroots family and did not have any educational support from his parents, he got bad English writing results in early secondary school years. However, Cheung is a hardworking person, he started to study hard and he got a satisfactory result and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

After graduation, he became a journalist but his article was described to be “gibberish” by an editor. Similarly, the personalities of Cheung did not allow him to give up and he tried hard to become better. After having more experience, Cheung was later assigned to interview different celebrities and got achievements in his career.

Planning of life and multitasking skills can help people strike a balance

Cheung started the interest of participating in marathon matches when he was 45 years old. In the view of Cheung, participating in marathon is not only a challenge but also gives him the goals. Cheung will soon turn 60 years old this year and he has joined over 60 marathon matches. Cheung said: “I would keep doing things I like including marathon.”

As Cheung needs to strike a balance between work, interest and family, Cheung thinks that planning of life and multi-tasking skills are important to him in order to arrange the time and finish all his different responsibilities and commitments.--155105 2017年11月21日 (二) 18:13 (CST)
