Yesterday, a conference titled ‘Media development under the new era of technology’ was held at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. Different speakers from Hong Kong, Macau and China shared their point of view in the conference.

The famous Chinese author, Qiang Jiang believes that newspaper will be replaced by the internet someday. However, he believes that this situation will not happen in China for the next few years yet.

Talking about the media in the Mainland China, Qiang said, ’It is a harsh job to be a reporter in China. There are so many things that you cannot publish. But as long as the government is not willing to change, this practice will certainly carry on.’

During the Q&A session, a student raised a question about how people can go againist the straight force of the China government on covering media reporting rights. Qiang thinks that we should treasure and make good use of Weibo, the new media, (the voice out). As Weibo is an interactive and public platform, it provides a very good channel other than formal publishing for people to make a noise.
