Weibo changes the Media ecosystem in China

The Chinese Media ecology is under significant change due to the rapid development of Internet, which leads to a new form of news reporting in an information-restricted Middle Kingdom- via Micro Blog, Weibo.

The Wenzhou train collision draws the attention of publics, triggering the concern of news reporting freedom in Chinese Media, those were forbidden to spread a word towards the accident, except quoting from the Official Press Release. ((run-on))

‘Wei Bo is a gift from God,’ said Qian Gang, the co-director of China Media Project of Journalism and Media Studies of Hong Kong University. He further explained this tool provides an alternative medium for the public to exchange social issues which the Chinese government holds conservative thinking.

‘There’s no way the Chinese media to have a breakthrough in near future,’ he claimed. ‘Limitation from the Chinese government is tight. Still, people can make use of the gift from God,’

Weibo successfully changes the existing environment of news releasing and obviously performs well, so far. Qian stressed that the efficiency of the new platform depends on how people utilize it.
