“723 Wenzhou Accident” is a serious rail way accident, which caused 30 deaths and 200 injuries. The accident not only exposed the quality of railway development in China, but also showed there are many problems of the press in China. Fortunately, the popularity and convenience of the media gives a helping hand to the victims to find out the truth. “Weibo helps the public to find out the hidden truth,” said QianGang, a senior non-fiction writer and journalist, at Shue Yan University yesterday.


China has been known as an information sealed country. The government stopped and controlled media to report anything about the train accident. It violated the precious freedom of news reporting. Unexpectedly, due to rising internet using, Weibo becomes a new tool of defending the freedom of news reporting.


The first release of the accident information was a photo from a resident who live near the site of the accident. The photo showed the time of the train crashed. “Weibo is a present from god,” said QianGang. He appreciate Weibo help us to find out the truth.


Also, he appreciates the journalists who show the hidden truth to public. “Although the newspaper organizations have been ordered to stop reporting Wenzhou train accident by government, some journalists choose to upload their reports to Weibo and broadcast the hidden truth to public.”
