Weibo the Chinese Media Avantgarde

Qing Jian, the famous scholar on Chinese study from the Hong Kong University, used the Wenzhou high-speed railing accident happened on 23 July as an example to illustrate the appreciating growth of Chinese local mass media.

Surprisingly, on 23 July, the breaking news of high-speed railing accident was firstly announced by Weibo, the most popular Internet social network in China, not by the official news media. Moreover, Weibo had become the most popular discussing and information exchanging centre for the accident.

Qing Jian pointed out that Weibo somehow acted as an avant-garde in the Chinese mass media field. The changes brought improve the media habitat to a more opened market.

Apart from the internal improvement, Qing thought that the external aid from foreign media organization had also induced the local media to have larger steps towards a more mature and healthy environment.
