Many claimed that the movie industry in Hong Kong is dying as Hong Kong

audiences usually watch movies from China or Hollywood. Senior script-writer

Sharon Hui said today at Shue Yan University that the distinguishing feature

of Hong Kong culture is blurrier than before which implied the movie or television

industry has only little room for improvement.

Hui compare Hong Kong to Beijing, saying that Beijing is starting to develop its

distinguishing and iconic culture. This improvement can enhance the

development of movie industry in the place.

Besides the culture, people usually blame the script-writer for boring and

repeated plot in the movie. However Hui said, ‘this is always not their own decision,

it is the investors and chief executives’ decisions.’ She thinks no matter how

creative the script-writer is, they have to follow the instructions giving by the

department head. Moreover, Hong Kong is a small place with little talented, which

makes the development more tough and harsh.

‘The movie industry in Hong Kong will be developed in its own way, I believe,’

Hui thinks that Hong Kong movie in the 70 to 80s are normally imitate Hollywood

style or taking it as reference. But now, Hong Kong owns its movie with local

style. She believes the youngsters are the market which will lead the industry

to the direction they are looking forward to.
