Title: Wong wants to change the monopoly of HK TV industry

TVB and ATV are the two only free television broadcast channels. However three new broadcast licenses will be launched this year, including the City Telecom (CTI) TV.

"Running a broadcast station was my teenage dream. I think the past six months which I started to prepare for the opening for CTI TV was the most precious and happiest time in my life," said Ricky Wong, chairman of CTI, in the assembly of Hong Kong Shue Yan University on Feb. 21 Wong was a talented businessman. He had owned a international school with 400 students when he was just 17 years old. In 1991, he founded CTI and broke the monopoly of Hong Kong Telecom in the sector of long distance call.

Last year, Wong decided to apply for the new broadcast license and tried to accomplish his dream. He recruited hundreds talents who produced several popular drama series from TVB. Also, Wong would invest over two billions to challenge the TVB monopoly in the coming five years.

" What I want to do is change. The autocratic management in the Hong Kong TV industry is unhealthy to creative production.I think the creators including script writers and directors,-incomplete, this thought is not finished afterwards" said Wong, "I am creating a federal system which nine crews can develop and produce what they want freely. However, they need to take the responsibility of audience rating."

The ground-breaking ceremony of the CTI broadcast station in Tsueng Kwan O will be held on the coming Friday. The TV city will be the Asian largest one which the area is equivalent to 33 football pitches (219,670 sq. feet).
